My Best Friend's Wedding

My Best Friend's Wedding

When Claire asked me to do makeup for her wedding, I was incredibly honored. She has the best taste and refinement about her. For her to think my work was good enough to be used on one of the most important days of her life meant so much to me. We had dreamt of this day for a long time and to be a part of it was so special.

Claire and I met at Tarleton State University in 2016. We were roommates throughout our entire undergraduate education. Claire was different than any other friend I had before because we were alike in so many ways. We share so many memorable moments but my favorite has to be our most recent yet: her wedding.

I had done her makeup countless times throughout our time living together but this was different. I had to make sure that it was perfect. We sent many images back in forth in the months leading to the wedding and I would practice on myself at least once a week. I was familiar with working on her face but I still wanted to do a practice round for the rehearsal dinner to make sure it was exactly what she wanted.

Weddings never really go as planned, do they? We had a few bumps in the road with me leaving one of my makeup kits sitting on my porch 3 hours away (WHAT WAS I THINKING?!) and doing ten full faces and touch ups in about eight hours time slipped away from me but ultimately I am so pleased with how it all turned out.

It's always fun learning the different styles of a big group of girls. There are some that love full glam, others that want a natural look and some that don't normally wear makeup at all! Learning the different taste and techniques to illustrate the look that reflects their personality keeps me interested!

How I Created This Look

Face: I started by applying Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation in the shade Ecru on her face and neck to give myself an even, blank canvas. I coat this with Cody Airspun translucent powder with a large fluffy brush and then took a sponge to apply a thick coat powder under her eyes, on her forehead, and jawline. This technique is called baking and will brighten these parts of the face in a natural way. I use NARS bronzing powder in the shade Casino and apply it with a MAC 120 brush. I blend it out on her cheekbones, upper forehead, lower jawline, and the sides of her nose. I stippled Maybeline blush right along the cheek bones.

Eyebrows: I used two Anastasia Beverly Hills products; Dip Brow and Brow Wiz. I start by shaping the outer corners and then using creating fine, hair like strokes to fill in the brow.

Eyes: I used the original Jaclyn Hill palette and the Morphe X Jeffree Star palette to create this eye look. I start with neutral colors in the crease and slowly add and blend in darker browns. While I love a full glam look, I will never use a black shadow on a wedding day because it can give a harsh look so instead, I build the shadow with multiple shades of brown. The inner corner I lighten and brighten with the Jeffree Star palette. Claire had gotten lash extensions so we only applied mascara to the bottom lashes. I used Loreal Voluminous in Noir. I outline the upper eye with Too Faced eyeliner in Black

Lips: Anastasia Matte Lipstick in the shade Soft Touch; Mac Lip-Liner in the shade Soar; MAC Gloss in shade Snob

To complete the look I used MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft Touch and set the look with Morphe Setting Mist.

I was honored to be a part of such a special day and I am beyond happy for Claire and her groom, Tim!

Best Wishes 💋
